the problem · generic front door, no target reader

A front door that could belong to anyone.

I had a live studio site with seven years of work behind it. The services list spoke to everyone. I had to pick a niche before I moved a single pixel.

A generic starting point

I started on Webflow and moved to WordPress on SiteGround. The homepage opened with “Need growth? Start now!” next to a stock handshake. The navigation only offered About, Pricing, and Contact.

Choosing the reader

I named health and wellness as the only reader on 2026-07-13. Salons and real estate were dropped, not de-prioritised. The site would speak to therapists first, and the whole circle of healing at launch.

Writing the rules

A client brief brings natural constraints. My own project had none. I wrote the rules down first and held every round to them.

the approach · rule the story, map a wide field

Map the story before pushing pixels.

I ran the same process I use for my clients on my own site. I kept the receipts.

An Obsidian canvas with 65 nodes built the moodboard before the first build. I ruled the palette and type there.
I built 36 landing concepts, page drafts, labs, and swings. I recorded a verdict for each one and deleted nothing.
I ran 19 logo rounds on a parallel track. The first six lockups led to the Culm Tie. I checked the rasters at 64, 32, and 16 px.
Lucky bamboo is gifted in counted stalks. The visitor grows the arrangement by scrolling down the page. The booked call adds the ninth stalk.
Every round held a $9,999 signature build and $300, $600, and $900 care tiers. I used no fabricated numbers or quotes, six ordinal steps, and no durations other than a 30-minute intro call. I kept the rule of no “AI” client-facing.

I wrote this after the first scroll journey build. The plumbing worked, but the scene craft felt too basic. I measured every round after against this rule.

The inherited site was a WordPress homepage. The delivered site is a single scroll, so I have no Studio, Process, Work, or Pricing URLs to pair.

Shipped five weeks after picking the niche.

The Nine Stalks went live on studioluckybamboo.com on 2026-08-17. It runs as a static site on Vercel.

The ruled facts held firm. The $9,999 anchor appears exactly twice. The proof chapter shows four live client sites. The page uses six ordinal steps and exactly one duration, the 30-minute intro call.

Launch day iterations

Launch day was review day. I pushed five rounds between the first deploy and the last. I added four more rounds and a privacy page the next day.

Measuring the contrast

I measured the contrast in both tone states. The reduced motion branch renders the completed arrangement with no animation at all.

Landing the identity

I tested four trial identities in the live masthead one at a time. Each was reversible from a dated snapshot. I picked the Culm Tie with Rootline Roman in Round 19, and it has been live since 2026-08-21.

Don't delete earlier variations. Rounds stack; supersede, never remove.

This is the least glamorous rule in the studio. It is also the rule that made this page possible.
